The community of l`Arche Tecklenburg is very international right now. For example, in the year 2016 there have been assistants from 13 countries all over the world: European countries, Canada, South Africa, Madagascar, India, Russia, Tadzhikistan.

There are two ‘types’ of assistants in l`Arche Tecklenburg: volunteers, who are coming for 1 year and long-term assistants (employers), who work in the community mostly for many years. The volunteers and moste of the assistants live in community, together with the coremembers. The everyday work of assistants is versatile: to keep the house in order, do the laundry, cooking, groceries shopping, going for a walk, helping in medical and personal care, etc.

The reasons of applying to become an one-year volunteer are different. Some are interesting in community life and want to experience it. Some would like to join l’Arche as a long-term assistant and would like to try this life first for one year, or they just want to see, what is the l’Arche and get first experiences. Some volunteers, who are from abroad, have the goal to broaden their knowledge of german.

Many volunteers are coming in order to give and to share. But with time they discover that the roles have changed: they see their own development, because they take so much from the core members!

In our community everyone can contribute his gifts, talents, skills and wishes. And the most important you bring… is yourself!
